US-75 comes north out of Topeka, passes west of Hoyt, which the K-214 loop connects to it, and runs along the eastern border of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation to Holton, the county seat. North of Holton it meets K-9 at Netawaka and runs west of the Kickapoo Reservation, on whose border K-20 begins. Holton is also where K-16, coming in from the west, meets US-75; K-116 starts at that junction and shares 4th Street and the Banner Creek crossing with K-16 until K-16 turns south toward Birmingham and Valley Falls, while K-116 continues east past the turn for Denison. West of Holton, K-62 leaves K-16 to follow Soldier Creek north to Soldier, and the K-79 spur runs up to Circleville.

Two things shape the work here. The Prairie Band Casino & Resort at Mayetta, between Topeka and Holton, has been open since 1998 and draws visitors in cars, pickups and RVs, and a breakdown in its lots is a job where the lot and the entrance matter more than the road. Everywhere else the towns are small, from Delia south-west of Holton to Whiting north-east of it, with only a few fixed points each, such as the Denison Historical Museum or a church or a grill. So when you call, start with the nearest town and the direction you drove out of it, then the highway, whether US-75, K-16 or another number from the last sign you passed; a creek name on a bridge or a ranch gate helps as well.
