I-29 is the spine of Platte County. It runs north out of Kansas City past Kansas City International Airport, which sits just west of the interstate, reaches Platte City at exit 18 and carries on toward St. Joseph. Route 92 is the east–west road: it crosses the county from Smithville, where it meets US-169, to Platte City and I-29, passes Tracy across the Platte River and crosses the Missouri on the Centennial Bridge into Leavenworth. At the south end, Route 9 and the I-635 approach carry trucks along the river at Riverside, while Route 45 climbs Parkville's bluffs and, further up the river, runs through Farley. In the north of the county, the roads to know are lettered routes: Route B and Route Z at Edgerton, Route Z and Route Y at Dearborn, with US-71 just to the west.
The Missouri River forms the county's south-western border with Kansas, and it shapes the work. Ground near the river at Riverside stays soft after rain, Farley sits just north of the Platte's confluence with the Missouri, and up at Iatan the old Mission Creek bridge is too narrow for emergency vehicles. Inland, the Platte River splits Platte City from Tracy, with the Platte Falls Conservation Area on its flood plain. Weatherby Lake, Lake Waukomis and Houston Lake are small cities built around their own lakes, and Houston Lake's is private; for boats and campers, Smithville Lake lies just east of the county line. Platte City, the county seat, sits on the south bank of the Platte River with I-29 along its east side at exit 18 and Route 92 through town. Trucks from the freight parks toward Kansas City International meet the interstate here, and the Platte Falls Conservation Area covers the flood plain to the north-east.

Towing in RiversideWeatherby Lake grew out of developer Glenn Weatherby's Lakeview Subdivision and is built around the lake of the same name, formed behind a dam completed in 1937. It borders Kansas City north of Parkville. Around a lake, 'by the water' could be anywhere, so give the street and the nearest cross street.
The old steamboat town of Weston, north-west of Platte City, looks over the Missouri River toward Fort Leavenworth. McCormick Distilling Company and the Weston Historic District make easy landmarks, and I-29 at Platte City is the nearest interstate.
Towing in WestonMuch of Lake Waukomis is water; the city lies north of Riverside and north-east of Parkville. Around the lake, a street name and house number will get a truck to you sooner than a description of the shoreline.
Ferrelview, named for landowner Mollie Ferrel Heady, is a village enclave entirely inside Kansas City, south-east of Platte City. Because every border is a Kansas City border, say 'Ferrelview' and give a street name; 'Kansas City' alone covers too much ground up here.
In the north-east of the county, Edgerton sits on Route B and Route Z, just east of the Platte River along Grove Creek, and is named for a railroad employee. The Smithville Reservoir is off to the east across the Clinton County line. With two lettered routes and a creek running through, give the route letter and say whether you are in town or out toward the river.
Camden Point has had a post office since 1837 and probably borrowed its name from England; it lies north of Platte City and east of Weston. North Platte Elementary School and a Mid-Continent library branch are both in town, and either makes a clear landmark for dispatch.
North of Parkville and Riverside, Platte Woods runs its own police department and has two churches, Platte Woods United Methodist and Christ Lutheran. Either church is a reliable reference point if you are on a side street and unsure of its name.
Riverside bounds Northmoor on the south and west, and Kansas City's Lakeview Terrace and Briarcliff West neighborhoods close in on the north and east. A violent tornado hit the town in May 2003, damaging homes, City Hall and the police station. With three neighbors this close, name Northmoor and the street when you call.
Tracy faces Platte City from the north-west bank of the Platte River. Its name honors J. W. Tracey, a Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad superintendent, and the town was laid out in 1872. Route 92 serves Tracy and I-29 passes to the north-east, so name Route 92 and say whether you are on the Tracy side of the river or already across.
Farley stands on Route 45 just north of where the Platte River empties into the Missouri, with Leavenworth across the water to the west. The village is named for Joseph Farley, who owned the land, and a Platte County Historical Society plaque on Main Street near the post office marks the old general store site. Near the confluence, say whether you are on Route 45 or down on lower ground.
A private lake, open only to residents, is the heart of Houston Lake, just north of Riverside. If the vehicle is inside the lake grounds rather than on a public street, say so, and tell us who can meet the truck.
Ridgely most likely owes its name to its lofty elevation; the village sits north-west of Smithville and north-east of Platte City. Its post office opened in 1848 and closed in 1902, and it belongs to the North Platte R-I school district. On the country roads around it, a road name plus the nearest crossroads or farm lane is what finds you.
Iatan was one of the first river ports settled after the Platte Purchase, north of Weston on the Missouri, until Weston and St. Joseph took its trade. Its name now belongs to the Iatan 1 and Iatan 2 coal-fired power stations. The village's Mission Creek bridge, built in 1885 and damaged by floods, is too narrow for emergency vehicles, so tell dispatch which side of the creek you are on.
Dearborn straddles the Platte and Buchanan county line on Route Z and Route Y near US-71; it is described in the Buchanan County section.
