I-70 and US-24 are the two roads that tie this end of Lafayette County to Kansas City. Lexington, the county seat, stands on the Missouri River bluffs at the junction of Route 13 and US-24 on the south bank. The 1847 courthouse on Main Street, the oldest still in use west of the Mississippi, has a Civil War cannonball lodged in one pillar, and the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site covers the bluff-top battlefield. Coal for river steamboats was once dug from these bluffs. Give the highway and the nearest street or landmark.
Odessa, the largest city in Lafayette County, is built along I-70 and takes its name from Odessa in the Russian Empire. East of town beside the interstate, the I-70 Motorsports Park reopened in 2021 with a dirt oval and a dragstrip; Lake Venita is in Dyer Park, and the Odessa City Lake south-west of town has a boat ramp and dock. On I-70, the mile marker and your direction of travel matter more than the exit name.
Wellington carries the name of the Duke of Wellington, the British commander at Waterloo, and it sits a few miles east of Napoleon with a Waterloo crossroads in between. Lexington lies to the north-east. Wellington shares its school district, fire protection district and special road district with Napoleon.
Odessa is the landmark for Lake Lafayette, a little city just to its south with water inside its limits and its children in the Odessa school district. Give the street and the road you took out of Odessa to get there.

Napoleon fills the county's north-west corner, a narrow strip between the Missouri River to the north and US-24 to the south, with Jackson County on its west side. Its name most likely honors Napoleon Bonaparte, and Wellington is a few miles east; a small crossroads halfway between the two is called Waterloo.
