Maysville, the county seat, was founded in 1845 and may take its name from Maysville, Kentucky. It stands in central DeKalb County where Route 6 meets Route 33, and the DeKalb County Courthouse there joined the National Register in 1998.
Towing in MaysvilleStewartsville sits right beside US-36 in the south-west of the county. George Tetherow platted it in 1854 as Tethertown, and it was later renamed for Robert M. Stewart, a former Missouri governor. It has its own Stewartsville C-2 schools, and the Dalton-Uphoff House was listed on the National Register in 1982. The town lies west of Cameron and north of Plattsburg; on US-36, say which way you are headed and whether you have already passed the town.
Union Star, in Polk Township on the Andrew County line, sits beside the Third Fork Platte River with US-169 running through it between St. Joseph and Iowa; Exit 50 on I-29 is its interstate access. The name most likely honors local pro-Union feeling in the Civil War.
Towing in Union StarClarksdale lies along the Little Third Fork of the Platte River in south-west DeKalb County. It was platted in 1885 when the railroad was extended to the spot, and named for John F. Clark, who owned the town site; the post office followed in 1886. The small city is south of Union Star and north-east of Agency, inside the Maysville R-I district.
Weatherby is on Route 6 east of Maysville, a short way before the Daviess County line, and was laid out in 1885 by L. H. Weatherby, who gave it his name. Grindstone Creek flows past south-east of the village. Three Serbian Orthodox monasteries share an address on 105th Street here, and the Absolom Riggs House is on the National Register of Historic Places. On Route 6, say which side of Weatherby you are on.
Just west of Maysville, Amity was platted in 1870 and has had a post office since 1872, and it belongs to the Maysville R-I School District. Cameron lies to the south-east and Union Star to the north-west. There is so little in the village itself that Maysville is the clearer reference: tell dispatch which road you are on and how far out of Maysville you think you are.
